Have you ever felt the need to chunk the nearest object at your television while watching the news? Boy I sure have and last night was one of those times. I watched as every pundit took a turn at analyzing the American citizens showing up for town hall meetings. I kept yelling at them, not that they could hear me, “You just don’t get it”. They continually made the actions of our citizens a “party” issue. This has nothing to do with party affiliation. Just like the tea parties, there are democrats, republicans and independents at these meetings. The people are sick and tired of “big brother” interfering in our lives. I have heard crowd members yell out at these meetings, “It’s not about healthcare…it’s about freedom.” We are perfectly capable of making our own decisions. We don't need politicians to do it for us. We have told them again and again that we will fire them for trying. And yet they still don’t get it.
I was really disappointed last night listening to Mort on Fox News (the only station that I watch) completely misconstrue the reason “we the people” are rallying at these meetings. It isn’t to shout down the explanation of the healthcare bill, it is to let these congressmen know that we want smaller government. And when I heard one congressman yell at a man in the audience to “Shut Up”, boy did my feathers get ruffled. They work for us. And yet they still don’t get it.
We tell them what to do, not the other way around. I shook my head in disbelief as I watched the news anchors and the videos of these town hall meetings. Have none of these idiots ever read the constitution? Shouldn’t that be a prerequisite to the position of any public office? I would certainly think that it would be a good idea. We the people, do not want a career politician serving us. We want normal people that have normal lives to vow to spend a couple of years of service representing his or her district or state. Not people that have decided to make a career out living off of taxpayers. Especially the ones that don’t listen to the people that they are representing.
So I recommend that we vote them all out and start all over. We should also put term limits on congressmen. That would certainly help to eliminate “career politicians”. They should no longer receive the salaries and perks once they are out of office either. Back to work they go just like everyone else on the block. We will place a flag pole in their front yard to acknowledge their sercvice. Maybe if we make all of these changes they will finally “get it”.
Call, write, email or fax your congressman….let them know 2010 is getting closer.
