While many states filed their applications to receive their portion of the stimulus package by June 30, the Lone Star state held out until the last minute. Literally. Paperwork was to be filed by 4:30 June 30 and application from Texas was stamped 4:12 p.m. Governor Perry had initially turned down any money from Obama’s stimulus fiasco but was pressured by Texas legislatures to accept at least a portion of the States cut.
That being said, where is the big boost to the economy? The stimulus was supposed to push the economy through next year. The administration says that 75% of the funds should be moving by the end of 2010. Only $56 billion of the $158 billion allocated had been delivered by the end of June and the jobless rate has soared to 9.5%. That sure doesn’t sound stimulating to me.
What is even more amazing is that in a statement from Moscow, Obama actually made the statement, “I wouldn’t have done anything differently” concerning the stimulus package. So did he fail Economics 101 or what? His main topic of discussion at this G8 Summit he is attending this week is, get this, “Climate Control”. That’s right, people are losing everything they have worked for and he is worried about how “green” we need to be.
If it weren’t so serious, it would almost be funny. But it isn’t.
